FBI's declassified Ernest Hemingway document

Yep, it's true. The FBI had Ernest Hemingway under surveillance. Why you may ask? Well, it's because he lived in Cuba.

This document, coming in at around 150pgs covers Hemingway from 1942 until 13yrs after his death (1974). However, the bulk of reports come while Hemingway was living in Cuba. The FBI vault website states that,

"The Bulk of it concerns Hemingway's intelligence work on behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba between 1942 and 1944."

It's quite an interesting read. Hemingway actually had a team of people (unknown to officials) that was working for him. The Embassy gave him $500 a month to pay these people and wouldn't inform them of who they were, only that they worked in bars, restaurants, and the town center. Team Hemingway was to gather information and report to him who would in turn report to the Embassy.

There are also some interesting bits in their that shed light onto the daily activities of Hemingway, which were used by someone as a bases for an argument to Hoover (head of FBI) to stop Hemingway's involvment because he was reckless and would do more harm than good.

Also of note, later in Hemingway's life he was committed to a psych ward. There had been reports that we was paranoid  that people were following him and that his phone, house, and car were being tapped. People thought he was crazy (not that main reason for going in). Actually, he wasn't! Big brother was there.

I know, you want to read it now, right? Well click here --> Ernest Hemingway's FBI file to be taken to the FBI vault to download the PDF for free. I've noticed a few sites attempting to sell it--don't buy it!
